House Leader

Definition:

A House Leader is an individual who is responsible for the health and happiness of a life-sharing home and has committed to two or more years in community.

Job Description:

As a House Leader, one is expected to be capable of being in a supervisory role. Homes can be run by a team or House Leaders can have supporting Coworkers.  Most House Leaders work in their household for a few shifts cooking, cleaning, and carrying the responsibilities of the home. They can also spend time working in workplaces in leadership or supporting roles. House Leaders are part of the decision-making body and carry the meeting life, planning festival celebrations and cultural offerings.

 

Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Ability to perform well in environment that requires compassion, helpfulness, patience, and resourcefulness

  • Direct care experience preferred

  • Basic accounting skills preferred

  • Valid Driver’s License preferred

  • Passion for working with people who are developmentally/intellectually disabled

  • CPR certification required (training provided)

  • Star Services training required (training provided)

 

Responsibilities:

  • Caring for 3-4 adults who have disabilities

  • Manage 1-2 coworkers living in your home

  • Medication assistance

  • Grocery/household shopping

  • Intermittent sole house awareness

  • Representing needs/desires of the home collective in meeting life

  • Interfacing with medical personnel on behalf of an individual

  • Caring for the home and keeping it clean, safe, and comfortable

  • Doing personal cares with individuals

  • Cooking and sharing meals with housemates

  • Balancing financial records for individuals and the home

  • Give emotional support to housemates

  • Joining housemates in social outings

  • Regular Star Services training (provided)

  • Participating in conflict resolution process (if applicable)

  • Progress tracking (if applicable)
